Join the Fin Foundation at Reid Park Zoo as they have their “Free Day at the Zoo” event! There should be lots of people exploring the zoo and it is a chance to see marine mammals in the Desert! Boris and Koby will be out on exhibit showing off their white coats and regal Polar Bear attitudes! Should be loads of fun! Come join in!

We were up early and out for the entire day (I should have worn sunscreen!) at the Reid Park Zoo! Lots of family out and about seeing the wonderful animals at the zoo! The Polar Bears were doing their part as they were very active in the morning! We presented some of our artifacts and showed a lot of people who and what the Fin Foundation is about! And we were able to use the Polar Bear Skull reproduction for the first time! The people really loved having the chance to see how big these animals really are and learned a thing or two about saving our oceans, our wildlife and our planet! Thanks to Caroline for volonteering!

Hanging out in the sun on Earthday 2010!

Back at the Biosphere but this time for their Earthday 2010 celebration! Lots of other eco aware groups out in the mall area under tents set up by the Biosphere! We got there early and had a great time all day! Lots of people from all over the country came to see not only the Fin Foundation, but solar cars, planitary science booths, and other organizations looking to help our planet return to being strong and healthy! We were right next to the Marine Science club from the U of A and it was nice to see young scientists reaching out to the community! Thanks to Peter and Caroline for helping out today and for always being there when the Fin Foundation needs you!

Desert Christian High School – Sharks!!!

  • April 13, 2010 – 8:15am – 10am
  • Desert Christian High School
  • 25 seniors
  • Sharks lecture and discussion

Up close with the jaws of a white shark!

Had the pleasure of returning to Desert Christian High School this am and had a great time talking just about sharks (my favorite subject!)! I use the same lecture format as when I taught at the UofA and find these seniors are ready for this in-depth level of information! They have a great background in that they have been actively learning about the ocean for a while and have gone on trips to Catalina where they even dissected a dogfish! Lots of good questions were asked and I look forward to returning for a Marine Mammal lecture in a few weeks!

Desert Willow Elementary – Our Amazing Oceans, Wonderful Whales

  • March 5th, 2010 – 9:15am to 11:30am
  • Desert Willow Elementary School – Vail, Az
  • 2nd grade – 130+ students
  • Our Amazing Oceans and Wonderful Whales

A whole lotta fun in one classroom!

We had an amazing class at Desert Willow! The 2nd grade brought energy that makes our presentations  much more FUN! (at least for me!) We packed the kids in tightly for the hour and a half, but they all did really well! We had great questions from everyone and even a new one for me (“Do you know anything else about… something else?”) I had to laugh out loud at that one and then try to figure if I did indeed know anything else about something else! Gotta love 2nd graders! A big thank you to all of the teachers and kids for their support as well! The donation was greatly appreciated and will hopefully help us get some new artifacts for future presentations!
