What a terrific day out in Picture Rocks! We had 3 volunteers helping today as we presented Our Amazing Oceans to over 400 kids! It was a blast! Each grade level came into the library where we got the chance to show all the ocean artifacts and talk about conservation and marine science! I will forever be impressed by how much these kids know about the ocean even though we are hundreds of miles from the nearest sea!

We had the chance to eat in the cafeteria and that was quite the experience! The kids all wanted to sit with us and ask questions about the ocean! We had to keep reminding them to eat their lunch!

Ended with the third graders and they were awesome! We hope we get the chance to make it back there soon to do additional presentations on whales or going green in our oceans!

Thanks Miss Honea for bringing the ocean to your school!

Great to be at a Flowing Wells School again! We had a presentation with several classes combined and it was a blast! All 3rd graders, with curiosity for everything! I was impressed by the number of shark questions at the end of the presentation! I hope the teachers forward some of them to me so I can try to answer them! I was also impressed by the number of kids who say they were wanting to be marine biologists as well!  Thank you to Mrs. Mize for setting everything up for our presentation… for for setting off the alarm system only once! (the second time wasn’t your fault!)

Ben’s Bells Kids Kindness Program

Sharing kindness...

Sharing kindness...

Just wanted to share a great moment! Earlier today at after our presentation at Ironwood elementary school, a nice young 2nd grader came up to us and handed me a Ben’s Bells kids kindness token! If you aren’t familiar with the program, it basically is all about recognizing kindness and sharing even more! The little girl thought we were kind for sharing our love of the ocean with her class! It will be our pleasure to have the token for a day before giving it to another person who shows kindness tomorrow!! Great feeling! Thanks Jade!!

a great fish actor!

a great fish actor!

We had a great presentation this morning with Ms. Luce’s class of 2nd graders! Wonderful group of young kids who had already started learning about the ocean in their class! We love when teachers incorporate marine science into their regular curriculum! We were able to show them first hand what some of the creatures looked like and help them understand how big some of these amazing ocean creatures are! We had two volunteers today when Michael and Manny gave their time to join in on the presentation! We look forward to coming back to Ironwood and giving additional talks!

Great school in the Flowing Wells District!

Great school in the Flowing Wells District!

We had our first presentation ever given outside today! It was awesome! The kids had so much energy! We got to use our outside voices! Michael Schrantz and I spoke with a large group of 3rd graders who were really attentive, curious and great listeners! As always, I get a kick out of seeing their eyes light up when the whale bones and shark jaws are shown! Being outside, we were able to show how big 60ft (the size of the largest whale sharks) really was! Thanks to all the teachers that brought their classes out today!
