resize-wizard-2Just returned from a wonderful meal and meeting with The Desert Dolphins Scuba Club here in Tucson! This organization has been around for nearly 50 years and continues to draw in divers from all over the southern Arizona region! Obviously these people were interested in ocean life and had great enthusiasm as we talked about sharks, conservation and the Fin Foundation. Many wonderful stories were shared about diving with sharks and other ocean creatures! Amazing group of people! I think many will start giving some of their time and photographs to our cause! AND spread the word about what we do! And help support us if they can! It was a great night! Thank you Desert Dolphins!

Using marine artifacts like a sea turtle shell to teach marine conservation!

Just back from the BGCT Jim and Vicky Click Clubhouse and had a great experience! Lots of curious kids asking loads of questions and having fun doing our summer art project! It amazes me again and again when these kids who may never have seen the ocean before can connect with seeing a sea turtle shell or giant sea shell! Every child left with a smile on their face

and a greater appreciation for our oceans! This is our third clubhouse and it just keeps getting better with each presentation! Three more to go before we work on another schedule for the regular school year!

Some tall ribs waiting to be restored...

Just wanted to post a quick update on the whale bone restoration! The bones are in pretty good shape overall, but some have certainly seen better days! We will be having a get together of volunteers to restore the bones (Museum restorer Michael Lee has given direction on how to do this process) sometime soon! I have included a few photos with the bones showing some of the cracks and weathering! We take these bones out to the schools and it is always a big hit with the kids!

Had a FANTASTIC presentation at the Holmes Tuttle  Clubhouse for the Boys and Girls Club of Tucson! Wonderful kids who were active in the art project and did some amazing illustrations! I am always intrigued by what the kids see as the most important feature to draw in an animal! The eyes of a crab verses its claws? The eyes were more important! Go figure! Thanks to Michael Scrantz for again giving up his time to help out with our presentation! I think his enthusiasm is contagious!

Discovering the secret lives of seastars!

Discovering the secret lives of seastars!

First presentation for the Boys and Girl’s Club of Tucson went really well! With the help of four (well, four and a half really) volunteers we were able to not only do a presentation about the ocean but also do an art project! Created an Ocean Mural with the kids adding their own renditions of sea creatures! What a great job they all did! Lots of fun for everyone! Gonna make another stop by this particular club and speak to the older kids as we only were able to speak to the 7-9 years old today!

Thanks so much to our volunteers for helping out today! Michael Schrantz, Manny Ramirez, Trish Wheeler and Kim Ludwig… and special guest Dante!
