Presentations:

The Fin Foundation conducts presentations for students of all ages! Whether a preschool class, an after school program, a high school marine science class, or an adult club meeting the Fin Foundation can bring the Ocean to you! We have multiple topics of interest for your consideration from basic Ocean information and conservation to specific subject matter suitable for collegiate lectures. Just contact us and we can come up with the right material for your group! Our presentations and service are free of charge and we will try our best to fit your schedule and needs!

Who to contact:

Please contact us if you or your group is interested in having the Fin Foundation give a presentation or work to bring the ocean to your community! When scheduling an appearance, please have the following information available so that we can best prepare for your presentation:

  • Contact Name and phone number/email address
  • Location
  • Age of group
  • Number of people in group
  • Desired length of presentation
  • Desired topic of presentation (if known)

Presentation topics:

The Fin Foundation is continually creating new presentations and improving existing material. We are always open to new subject matter, interesting ideas and specific topics to help bring the ocean to the classroom. We have provided a small sampling of our current materials to act as a guide for your presentation choice. Sharks! Biting Back!! An overview of shark species and their interactions with humans. Biology/ecology emphasis (structure, behaviour) with conservation issues being addressed (finning, overfishing).

Artifacts: Great White Shark jaw, mako, additional species. Megaladon teeth. Sawfish bill

Our Amazing Oceans!! A look at the large variety of organisms living in and around our seas. An ecological approach to learning about animal behaviour and function.

Artifacts: Great White Shark  jaw, sea shells, stuffed animals, cut-outs, narwhal tusk, whale bones, sea turtle shell, Sawfish bill.

Whales and friends!! A glimpse into the marine mammals that call the ocean their home. Whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, polar bears and sea otters are covered!

Artifacts: Whale bones, teeth, baleen, sea lion and bear skulls, hide, cut-outs, claws, narwhal tusk, walrus tusk

Age: Appropriate for 2nd grade and up. Specifically geared for grade level.

What to expect

After making arrangements for a presentation, sit back and enjoy! We will come to your location, conduct the presentation, then send a follow-up  questionnaire seeking comments and suggestions on how we can improve our presentations and service! If you would like to help prepare your students for the presentation, you can make arrangements with our presenters regarding reading materials that might accentuate the presentations! We are also very open to enhancing classroom textbook information and can mirror certain aspects of grade level appropriate materials.
