Being able to present in the library is great!

Had a great day at Desert Winds Elementary School! Our 2nd year of presenting to the entire school! New challenge since so many of the kids remembered us from last year! Glad we have new artifacts and information to share with them! We conducted 4 sessions overall and my voice is just about gone from all that talking! The students were amazing and really paid attention to all that we were doing! And had wonderful questions at the end of each presentation! That always keeps me on my toes! Looking forward to making this an annual event out in Picture Rocks!

We are really looking forward to this presentation!

Laguna Elementary School – Our Amazing Oceans

  • May 6th, 2010 – 12:00 noon to 1:00pm
  • Laguna Elementary School, Tucson Az.
  • 66 4th graders
  • Our Amazing Oceans

We worked with the 4th grade classes at Laguna Elementary and it was great! These kids were curious, polite, and overall… just awesome! There were lots of great questions at the end of the presentation that made me realize how much these kids were thinking about all that we were talking about! Love that! The teachers continued the ocean theme after the presentation by discussing Mel Fischer’s Ocean treasure hunts! We need to have more and more teachers focus on the ocean like this here in the desert! Thanks Mrs. Wilson!

This time around we focused on the mammals and that was loads of fun! trying to pick out the right information to share and the right artifacts to go along with the info is a challenge! The students were amazing (even the 3 boys up front!) and I am looking forward to coming back next year! Thanks Meg!

Reid Park Zoo, Polar Bears, and the skull!

Over 20 inches long and 12 inches high!

As part of our “Partners in Education”  with the Reid Park Zoo, we have been working hard to educate people about the Polar Bear and the struggles they are going through to survive in the wild… The Zoo recently purchased a REPLICA (smart educational practice – never promoting the market for real marine mammal bones) of a Polar Bear skull for the Fin Foundation to use in presentations in schools and at the zoo! It has already made a huge impact on the students as their eyes light up and the “ohhhs” and “ahhhss” are heard the moment the skull is shown! It is a wonderful teaching tool and one that will be treasured!
