We keep having a fantastic time out at the Reid Park Zoo’s “Zoo Lights!” We have seen loads of friends and shared the Christmas Season with everyone! Lots of people out there getting to see some of our artifacts as well, and hopefully learn a few things about our oceans! Wanted to share this picture of Christina and Quinn Forchione… Special friends of the Fin Foundation who came out to see us and to give a donation in remembrance of their lost loved one, Daniel

Took the long drive to Blythe to do two presentations at Ruth Brown Elementary School! What a great time we had! Lots of really excited 6th graders just overflowing with energy! They had questions already written out for The Fin Foundation since they had done some prep work before hand on the ocean! We spent a lot of time with each group and then spent time at the end going over some of the questions… Special treat as we were able to show them a reindeer hide also (not exactly a marine mammal, but it is Christmas time so…) We will hopefully be able to set up additional presentations as we continue to reach out to schools traditionally skipped due to being a little out of the way! Pictures to follow!
Zoo Lights – the second weekend!
We had another great weekend working with the Reid Park Zoo and their “Zoo Lights!” We had lots of volunteers show up over the three days and they all were kept busy with answering questions and showing artifacts! And we finally had the Polar Bear outfit all finished so we had two bears in our area (the Teddy bear and the polar bear!) The kids loved it and we took loads of pictures! Next week should be really cool as school is out, Christmas is coming and the LIGHTS are AWESOME!
Zoo Lights at the Reid Park Zoo…
Another successful night at the Zoo! We had our new Polar Bear costume ready and lots of great volunteers working the artifacts! I can’t say for sure, but I believe we had a longer line than Santa Claus! (I know we will still get presents cause Santa stopped by beforehand and looked at our stuff too!) Looking forward to another night of fun this evening as we finish out the second weekend of doing this! Looks like a yearly event for us now! 🙂
Thanks to Jeri, Brianna and Paul, Caroline, Adrian, Michael, Amanda, and of course my other bear in crime, George! And to all of the ROTC guys lead by Jesse…. hope the zoo didn’t work you too hard!
Blenman Elementary School – Our Amazing Oceans

We had a lot of fun today working with the 4th and 5th graders at Blenmen Elementary school! We took over the MPR and had the chance to show lots of artifacts and teach the kids about ocean conservation! One aspect that I really appreciated was that the teachers spent time having me explain what it takes to become a marine biologist and what kind of jobs there were in the area. We want to encourage as many people as possible to study and explore the oceans and what better place to start than by educating elementary school kids about all they can do! Who knows, maybe the kid in the mohawk will become a marine biologist and figure out how to save sea turtles from pollution!
