Showing ocean artifacts to the scouts!

Our second experience with the Boy Scouts of America and it was a great success! Going out to the International Wildlife Museum was an interesting location for the expo but it turned out really well! We saw loads of scouts, parents, and group leaders! We managed to spread a little more info about marine life, ocean conservation and about the Fin Foundation as well! Great Day! (and I did wander inside to see the Polar Bear and other Marine animals on display… I still like the live ones at Reid Park Zoo best!)

The start of a greaat day at Wakefield!

Great presentations today at Wakefield Middle School! We were hosted by our friend Steve Gleeson and it was a blast! We conducted 5 presentations starting at 8am! These students were attentive, asked great questions and participated well! Love it when the students are so engaged! We look forward to seeing them again next year and maybe even helping to run a lab or two!

Special thanks to our volunteer for today! You were awesome Michelle!

Blenman Elementary School- “Shark School!”

  • October 26th, 2010 – 1:30pm to 2:30pm
  • Blenman Elementary School – Tucson, Az.
  • 4/5 grade, 100 stuents
  • “Shark School!”

“Shark School” went really well! Two days of showing these 4th and 5th graders all sorts of amazing things about sharks! From their long history, to their unique biology, sharks make a great subject for students and teachers alike! We were really impressed at how many species of sharks these students were able to name off the top of their heads! (most kids cant name more than a handful normally!) We always look forward to going back to this school!

Howl-O-ween at Reid Park Zoo

  • October 22nd and 23rd, 2010 – 6:00pm to 8:00pm
  • Reid Park Zoo- Tucson, Az
  • 1500+ visitors over 2 days!
  • “Welcome to our Underwater World!

Please come by and see us at “Howl-O-ween” at Reid Park Zoo (one of our Partners in Education!) The Dive Shop and the Fin Foundation will be sponsoring an area at the zoo where we will be taking visitors into the underwater realm! Lots of fun costumes, great decorations and nothing scary at all (your little ones won't have to worry about getting scared!) We look forward to seeing you all and taking lots of pictures with our “sharks, fish, and friends!”

What an incredible “Howl-o-Ween!” We had lots of help from volunteers including some new ones from the Uof A Marine Awareness and Conservation Science Club! We dressed up in the new shark costume (thanks Brian!) and had the Polar Bear, Sword Fish, Penguin and several divers all helping to show over 4000 people through the zoo over our two days! Soooo much fun! Each year we try to make it a little bigger and better! And adding the “Finding Nemo ” photo board really stepped it up this year I think!

Thank you to all the visitors and to all the volunteers! Great Job!

Hendrick’s Elementary School -“Our Amazing Oceans!”

  • Hendrick’s Elementary School – Tucson, Az
  • 10 + students (CATS program)
  • “Our Amazing Oceans!”

We returned to Mrs. Prohaska’s class to share our artifacts and presentation with her CATS students! We always love going to see this group because they are so well prepared for us! Lots of great information shared and questions asked!

These kids are getting such a great experience in this small, advanced program! They have an aquarium with shark eggs developing! We wish each and every school district had the chance to have programs like this one!
