Desert Willow Elementary – Our Amazing Oceans, Wonderful Whales

  • Desert Willow Elementary School – Vail, Az
  • 2nd grade – 130+ students
  • Our Amazing Oceans and Wonderful Whales

A whole lotta fun in one classroom!

We had an amazing class at Desert Willow! The 2nd grade brought energy that makes our presentations  much more FUN! (at least for me!) We packed the kids in tightly for the hour and a half, but they all did really well! We had great questions from everyone and even a new one for me (“Do you know anything else about… something else?”) I had to laugh out loud at that one and then try to figure if I did indeed know anything else about something else! Gotta love 2nd graders! A big thank you to all of the teachers and kids for their support as well! The donation was greatly appreciated and will hopefully help us get some new artifacts for future presentations!

  • Estes Elementary School – Marana, Az
  • 6th through 8th grade – 120 students and families
  • “our Amazing Oceans”  Meet and Greet!

Michael Schrantz and I had a great time at the Science Fair! We had students and families coming by our area all night long, taking a good look at all the ocean artifacts we brought, asking questions, and sharing stories! Love seeing how families support their kids in the desire to learn! We hope to get back to Estes Elementary School soon for a traditional presentation!

We happy to join Estes Elementary School for their science fair this year! We will be setting up the full display with our artifacts and getting the chance to share our love of the Oceans and all the amazing life found there! We cant wait!

Hendricks Elementary School – “Green Oceans”

  • March 3rd, 2010 – 8:45am – 10:00am
  • Hendricks Elementary School
  • 4th Grade – 32 students
  • “Green Oceans”

The 4th grade group was the largest of the grades for our presentation series at Hendricks Elementary! What a wonderful experience the whole thing was! The 4th graders were very bright and inquisitive, looking at the artifacts and coming up with great ideas on why things were formed the way they were! Love to see these young scientists take on the hard questions like that! I know that there were several future marine biologists there in the room!

This 4th grade class was AWESOME! Lots of great kids who were excited about the ocean and really interested in learning as much as they could! We discussed how the ocean needs to be kept in balance and how they are the next generation to take on that challenge! Lots of insightful questions were asked and I look forward to hearing how these kids in the “cats” program progress!

Hendricks Elementary School – “Green Oceans”

  • March 2nd, 2010 – 8:45am – 10:00am
  • Hendricks Elementary School
  • 5th Grade – 18 students
  • “Green Oceans”

We always pick on the 5th graders when we do presentations to younger students, but in reality… these were amazing kids! Lots of knowledge already in the heads as they explore the oceans in the regular curriculum of their school! I am glad we were able to bring actual ocean artifacts into the classroom to help them learn first hand about sharks and inverts! Thanks again to Liz Prohaska for all of her dedication to teaching these gifted students!

Biosphere II – Ocean artifact display

  • February 27th, 2010 – 10am to 4pm
  • Biosphere II – Oracle, Az
  • All ages
  • Ocean Artifact Display –

Another great day out at the Biosphere II! Lots of visitors wandering through the place and asking lots of great questions! It gives me a chance to talk to people one on one and that is really cool since I mostly get to speak to larger groups! There were lots of questions about the Killer Whale and the death of the trainer in Florida… hard questions and something that I think needs to be talked about! Maybe at the Desert Dolphins Meeting in April…

Join the Fin Foundation as we add to the Biosphere II’s Ocean Education Area with a display of interesting artifacts like shark jaws and whale bones for everyone to see and touch!
