Great School! We will be back!

We had a great time today talking to some wonderful 3rd graders! This was a presentation set up after a student saw us at the Reid Park Zoo “Zoo Lights” in December and passed our information along to his teacher! (Good Job!) We set up our presentation in the common area of the pod and had the chance to show some of the wonders of the ocean! The kids had fun AND the teachers all seemed to be pretty entertained as well! Love that! We will be back at this school again soon as several other teachers saw what we were doing and have already contacted us about scheduling presentations for their grades!

Our second day in a row at Gridley and we had a blast! lots of kids flowed into the MPR and we were able to give another great presentation on our amazing oceans! the kids were awesome, full of questions and all very respectful! Love when the kids are so into the presentation that they forget about the time! I loved getting them involved first hand and we all enjoyed doing the penguin egg walk! One of these days someone will be able to walk that egg for more than a foot or two!

We were able to focus on Whales this time and even discuss the issue of the Orca in captivity and the death of the trainer in Florida a month ago. Interesting thoughts from the students… We had fun being able to go outside and get a real idea of whale body size also! Great fun!

Amphi Middle School – Career Day 2010

  • March 10th, 2010 – 1:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Amphi Middle School, Tucson Az
  • 8th grade, 300 students
  • Career day with emphasis on education and ocean jobs

Had the chance today to speak with several groups of 8th graders as they explored different career paths. It is always tough competing against police officers and CSI investigators! But I think the students enjoyed hearing a little about what a shark biologist does day to day and what it takes to get there! I threw in some science also since every chance to educate has to be taken! Thanks to Lisa Powell for getting in touch with the Fin Foundation! Go Pirates!

A few extra students never hurts!

An early morning at the high school where we had the chance to talk to 10 -12th graders about marine science and encourage future oceanographers and biologists to focus on the seas! It was loads of fun and we ended up having twice as many kids as we had first expected! We love seeing the older kids because we can go

Thanks for volunteering to be the fish!

a little more in depth with the science (and they get my sense of humor more often too!) Some of the kids remembered us from last year and that was great getting the chance to add some new information for them! We love going to Flowing Wells and look forward to our presentation to the Honors Biology class in a few weeks!
