  • Our Amazing Oceans

Lots of fun today as we visited the 5th graders over at Laguna Elementary School! We were able to go through “Our Amazing Oceans” in the one hour format (had to speed up just a little!) and the kids all followed along just fine! Many of them knew a lot of basic ocean information already! That is so encouraging considering how far removed from the ocean we are here in the Southwest! Mrs. Hawes is doing a great job! Thanks for getting us set up and we look forward to coming back to Laguna!

Great presentation at Schumaker this morning! 3rd grade classes combined together for a totally good group! Lots of great questions that led to little discussions on sharks, ecology and saving the planet! We look forward to coming back to Schumaker soon!

Pima Community College – Shark Presentation

  • Nov. 9th, 2009  2:40pm-5:00pm
  • Pima Community College Marine Biology Course, West Campus
  • Bio 183, 34 students
  • Shark lecture including ecology, history, and conservation

It was great getting back into the collegiate level teaching as we gave the shark lecture at Pima Community College in Tucson. I enjoyed being able to get deep into details of shark anatomy as well as discussing their history, cultural significance and conservation! The students were attentive and seemed to be truely interested in saving sharks!

We were fortunate that several of the students offered to volunteer to help the Fin Foundation on future presentations across the city. Hopefully we can get the new volunteers up to speed and assisting our current staff soon!

Thanks to Dr. Maluf for helping to arrange our presentation!

What a great night! We rushed from El Paso straight to the Ocotillo Science Night! We had our 9ft Tiger shark in tow and the kids loved seeing it up close! They were also given the chance to have their picture taken with the White shark jaws! The kids came into our area in small numbers and learned about shark science! There were some really great kids and many had parents there who were just as interested in the stuff we were talking about!

Great White Jaws and our new friend!

Great White Jaws and our new friend!

We had a great time getting to know the principal as well, and enjoyed his energy and willingness to get his picture taken also!

We will hopefully get back to Ocotillo Elementary soon and give some of the classes the full Fin Foundation experience!

Soccoro School District Sight Impaired Presentation

  • Soccoro School District, El Paso, Texas
  • 5yrs -18yrs old, 75 students
  • Ocean Overview

A unique chance for the Fin Foundation to work from a different perspective! We are going to be conducting a presentation for a group of amazing young people with special needs… using mostly touch as a learning tool, we will be teaching ocean science and conservation to kids who cannot rely on their sight as a form of learning! This will be an amazing day for all of us! I cant wait!
