Our 2nd day at Cottonwood and we had another great presentation! Michael again lead the presentation and had the kids laughing and learning all about our oceans and all the amazing creatures! The students had loads of questions as they opened up their minds to take in all the information! We are always amazed at how these kids think and see things in new ways! We enjoyed seeing the principal stopping by the class to see the presentation! We look forward to coming back for another talk soon! Thank you Mrs. Schrantz for getting us into Cottonwood!

Our first of two days at Cottonwood! Today was a special day as Michael Schrantz took over for the first time doing the lead on an entire presentation! You did a great job! The kids all enjoyed the enthusiasm and information you shared with them! The kids and teachers all walked out of the classroom with smiles and were no doubt better informed about the ocean and some of the issues going on with it! Can’t wait till tomorrow when you get to do a second presentation and we can see what kind a little experience under the belt has done for you!

st. Thomas the apostle signJust back from dong a presentation for the wonderful kids at St. Thomas The Apostle preschool! Had around 30 four and five year old students! These age is always so full of energy and it makes me smile during the entire time I am there! Sometimes the kids catch me off guard with their comments and observations! A little guy yelled out after I asked “what does this look like” (in reference to a sea jelly) and while other yelled out St. Thomas the apostle 10-19-09jelly fish and blob and other answers I had heard before, this youngster yelled out ” Parachute”! Sometimes I have to be reminded to look through their newly opened eyes!

This school has small groups of children and they get to name themselves, and this year they are the Sharks and The Fish! Love that some of them remember us from last year and that they are still interested in the Ocean! Thank you to the staff for helping to pass around the artifacts so that their little hands didn’t get hurt from all the shark teeth!

Oct. 2nd through Oct. 8th, 2009 the Fin Foundation will be filming Great White Sharks from Isla Guadalupe, 170miles off the Mexican Baja coast! We are putting together  footage of these amazing animals to have for students across the Southwest to see as an added bonus before starting labs and lectures on sharks! Hopefully, there will be some great photos moments as we jump in the water with the ocean’s apex predator!
